Player's Notes for DRUNALAY


Hey folks, I'm almost ready to start GM'ing my campaign. Either July 27 or August 3 is a potential start date. In the meantime, here are a few tidbits O' info that the average PC would know. I'll be nice here and let you know that what you know isn't necessarily true; as you play you'll learn which is which.

City of Caros

Tourism is major industry, very strict laws to keep the city pleasant for tourists. No rowdiness permitted in any area other than slums. Even in slums the crime/drug/sleazy rate is low.

Restormel

Carnival stops here regularly. Caravans and boats with supplies meet it here.

Veluna, in Toredomar

Gangs rule here, in the manner of modern Los Angeles. A lot of drug trading goes on here. Corrupt officials. A cutthroat place.

Flaking

Small population of Dwarves, who export metals and a few Dwarven weapons. They are looking for adventures -- inquire within.

Greenhearth

Home of many halflings.

Fort + trading post

Because the pass is closed, the fort currently protects the plains from the monsters that live in and occasionally wander out of the pass. The trading post is about to go belly-up for lack of travellers.

The Junn Tribesmen

There are five tribes of Junn living along the Drunalay peninsula, east of the Kelgar mountains from about northwest of the Restin river northwards.

These are for moderate loads, such as a caravan might carry. Lightly loaded groups can be 10%-20% faster.

Most jobs can be found via the normal roll to find, but the really skilled jobs would require the player to actually discover whom to apply to and role play an actual interview or demonstration of skills.

Anyone with an appropriate marketable skill can set up a both at the fair. If the player wishes, he or she can join the fair merchant's association (and any other proper guild), but this is not required.

The benefits of joining the fair association are:

  1. The character's equipment and possessions will be moved by the fair's movers

  2. The character will have a booth area in the fairground proper

  3. Security will be supplied by the fair guards.

Not joining the association means you are basically a hanger-on; You have to move yourself, set up outside the fairground (usually with the other non-member vendors) and have your own security.

Fees to join are like taxes (remember this fair is basically a travelling village), but they are set by the merchant members.

The fair travels around most of S. Drunalay.
